As you drive by dairies, do you ever wonder what happens to the calves? Your first thought is they probably grow up and start producing milk. That's what happens to the female calves.
What happens to the male calves? Starved. Alone. Ripped from their mother's mere moments after birth, never to know the love that only a mother can give. The innocent male calves are often taken to auction within hours of birth. At the auction, the day old calves are purchased with one goal in mind: a brutal slaughter. Why are they treated like this? A dairy cow will only produce milk if she is kept pregnant, and naturally half of the babies born are male. The dairy only needs a few males for breeding purposes, and so the rest are a practically worthless byproduct which must be disposed of.
